Since the last Sunday of September falls during our Weekend in Stars Hollow, we want everyone to know that the Back Alley Book Swap is still on — and Rory would absolutely approve of this event 👏👏

However, due to the crowds we anticipate throughout the weekend, we’re going to have to do things a little differently for this swap. We need you to hear us out, ok!!!!

This month’s swap will take place under The District Pavilion. While the pavilion gives us more room to spread out, there are still limits to the number of people and books the space can safely accommodate.

For this swap — and this swap only — we will be requiring an admission ticket. This is where we need you to hang with us 👇

🎟️ TICKETS

Admission is $5 per person and includes entry for one attendee into the swap.

Every person entering the swap must have their own ticket. Purchasing a ticket does not replace the books needed to participate — you must still bring between one and five eligible books to exchange.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Woodford County Imagination Library. While we don’t accept children’s books at our swap, we know that a lifelong love of reading often begins early. We couldn’t think of a better way to show a little stars hollow style small-town support than by helping honor Dolly Parton’s incredible literacy legacy 🦋📚

HOW THE SWAP WORKS

Bring between one and five eligible books with you.

For every book we accept, you’ll receive one swap ticket. Each swap ticket allows you to choose one book when the swap begins.

For example:

• Bring three accepted books
• Receive three swap tickets
• Choose three new-to-you books

Admission tickets and book-swap tickets are separate. Your $5 admission ticket reserves your place at the event, while your swap tickets determine how many books you may take home.

BOOK REQUIREMENTS

Because many of our Weekend in Stars Hollow visitors may be attending for the first time, please read these requirements carefully before packing your books!

We accept:

• Adult fiction
• Contemporary and currently popular titles
• Romance, fantasy, thrillers, mysteries, historical fiction, literary fiction and other fiction genres
• Books in clean, good used condition

We do not accept:

• Mass-market paperbacks
• Nonfiction
• Children’s or middle-grade books
• Textbooks, reference books or outdated instructional books
• Books with stains, tears or missing pages
• Books with mold, mildew, bugs or evidence of pests
• Books with smoke, pet or other strong odors
• Severely damaged or excessively worn books

Tiny Bird Books reserves the right to refuse any book that does not meet the swap requirements. Please inspect your books carefully before bringing them!

EVENT TIMELINE

1:00–2:30 PM — Book intake

Bring your books to the pavilion, have them checked and receive your swap tickets. You’re welcome to drop off your books and explore everything Weekend in Stars Hollow and downtown Versailles have to offer.

Please make sure you return to the pavilion by 2:40 PM.

2:45 PM — The swap begins promptly

Books will be arranged for browsing, and attendees may select one book for every swap ticket they received during intake.

ADDITIONAL RULES

• Each attendee may bring between one and five books.
• Books must be checked and accepted before swap tickets are issued.
• One accepted book equals one swap ticket.
• One swap ticket may be exchanged for one book.
• Swap tickets may not be saved for a future event.
• Please do not begin browsing or collecting books before the swap officially opens.
• Be thoughtful of other readers and follow any browsing instructions provided by our volunteers.
• Admission is limited to ticketed attendees so we can remain within the pavilion’s capacity.
